WHO WE ARE

Dr. Leonard Shapiro

Dr. Shapiro was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where
he attended Temple University for his undergraduate and medical degree.
During medical school, he was voted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, graduating with honors in the top ten percent of his class.  In 1970, he completed his Pediatrics residency at the Children's Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.  As a major in the United States Air Force Medical Corp, he directed the Pediatrics and Allergy departments at Laughlin Air force Base in Texas.  Dr. Shapiro then decided to further his training, and completed a two year fellowship training in Pediatric and Adult Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology at the National Jewish Hospital and University of Colorado Medical School in Denver, Colorado.  In 1974, Dr. Shapiro and Dr. Ronald J. Rothstein opened Allergy and Asthma Associates in Reno.  This was the first allergy practice in Northern Nevada to be headed by Board Certified Allergists.  Over the last 30 years, Dr. Shapiro has provided expert care to thousands of children and adults who suffer with allergies, asthma and related diseases.

Dr. Shapiro is Board Certified in both Pediatric and Adult Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.  He is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.  He has been selected by his peers to be in the Allergy Section of Best Doctors in America and is listed in Who's Who in Medicine and Health Care.  He has been a participant in numerous clinical drug studies and has published in professional journals.  He has served as both a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine and a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Nevada School of Medicine.  In this capacity, he has trained medical students and residents in Allergy, Asthma and Immunology for over 30 years.

Dr. Boris M. Lokshin

Dr. Lokshin graduated at the top of his class from medical School in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1980. He completed his first internship in St. Petersburg, and later on continued his post-graduate training in pediatrics and pathology at Loma Linda University Medical Center in California.

He completed his combined sub-specialty training in General Allergy/Immunology and Pediatric Pulmonology at the University of Iowa. He went on to study and teach the treatment of Allergies and Asthma, as Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri School of Medicine.

In 1993, Dr. Lokshin moved to Connecticut where he was in private practice and Clinical Assistant Professor at Yale School of Medicine. In 1995, he joined Allergy and Asthma Associates. He has been treating patients of all ages with allergies, asthma and other related conditions. In addition, he is a Clinical Assistant Professor, teaching medical students and residents at the University of Nevada School of Medicine.

Dr. Lokshin's research is published in New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Annals of Allergy, and other publications. He has given multiple presentations and lectures for the community and other physicians in the areas of asthma and allergies.

He is a member of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, American Thoracic Society, American Medical Association, and the Nevada State Medical Association. He is also named in the 2002/2003 America's Registry of Outstanding Professionals.

Dr. Lokshin enjoys treating patients of all ages for allergies, chronic cough, asthma, and related conditions. He is currently accepting new patients.
